Hey everybody! Sorry the updates are two weeks late, but last week was a very busy week for me. Not only did I have to travel 125 miles to go to an eye appointment, but my eldest son got married on Friday! It was a beautiful ceremony, and I am so happy for him and his new wife! 'Sigh', all my children are now married. Time moves so fast these days...
As far as updates are concerned, in When Foxes Fly , Ping gives Duelsey a stern alternative. In Lost Legends of Whoelterran , Valor and Co. are in real trouble now! In From RoughWood With Love , seems economic problems are everywhere.

Thanksgiving is upon us again, and here in the Sparkle Forests I reflect on all that I have to be thankful for. I thank God for a wonderful family that looks after me on my bad days. I thank God for the fact that I haven't been completely bedridden for several years now. I thank God for providing the food on our table, the clean water we drink, and the roofs over our heads. I thank God for the clothes which we wear and the air that we breathe. I also thank God for the modest but loyal following my comics have. Have a great Thanksgiving folks, and don't be too shy to visit my Chat boxes in the left margin of my comics' front pages. I love hearing from you.

Brrr! It's gotten kind of chilly here in the Sparkle Forests! Sadly, we don't usually get any snow around these parts until January or February. The folks in the mountains nearby have already gotten a beautiful little blanket of the white stuff, but none of it reached us. 'Sigh', having spent a good portion of my childhood in cool climates, I miss the white Christmases of my youth. In any event, the leaves are turning, so I'll enjoy the colorful season we have right now. Tis a strange and mysterious climate here in the Sparkle Forests. Even my dwarf rose bush is still in bloom.
Got a couple of updates for you! In When Foxes Fly , Ping Pong is waking up! Will she change back? In From RoughWood With Love , a very unusual bunny visits RoughWood.

Whew! What a couple of weeks I've had! I know each of my comic's updates were a few days late and I apologize. The Doctor's appointments (and needles coming my way) set my work a little behind. Yeah, yesterday I got my flu shot, so I should be good to go for awhile.
Through it all, I did get an update prepared. In Lost Legends of Whoelterran , Zan and co. step into the Judiciary district of Drommen. They are soon to find that the legality system has been drastically altered!

Well, the leaves are turning, and the wind doth blow. Fall has come to the Sparkle Forests. I love this time of year. No, believe it or not, I'm not one to celebrate All Hallow's Eve. Even though I like the occasional scary story where an incredible evil is defeated, Halloween has become too much of a celebration of such darkness for my taste. Time was, when you could consider it a time of spoofing the enemy, but now I just see too many of us embracing the evil. I'll celebrate the time of harvest, but I ignore Halloween.
Sorry it's coming late, but the update for When Foxes Fly is here! Yeah, Blue Leader gets the bad news about Duelsey. How will Abomba Nation react to this set back?

Well, here in the States it's Columbus Day! A man in the 1400's tries to find a western route to India, and discovers a whole new world. Personally, I'm very glad he did. Being a mixture of Irish, French, English, and two Native American tribes, if Columbus hadn't discovered America, I probably wouldn't exist. Happy Columbus Day!
Two updates today, y'all! In Lost Legends of Whoelterran we cut back to Drommen where something stirs in the darkness... again! In From RoughWood With Love we give an example of cyclic debates.

Well, it's been quite a weekend for me. Went to see my baby Granddaughter and hold her for awhile. She is precious!
I was a little worried for my younger son. He had to go to another state to help a store that is opening up there. That place is really hit hard by the gas shortage. Hopefully he can get enough for the drive back home.
Well, some of you may have found it difficult to vote for my comics here lately. Seems as if both BuzzComix and TopWebComics have gone to the Firefox browser. If you want to get the Firefox browser, just click here .
Now for the updates. Got one for When Foxes Fly , and one for From RoughWood With Love ! In When Foxes Fly the Blue Leader of Abomba Nation is spying on Rusty from the roof. Looks like he wants the little guy more than ever now! In From RoughWood With Love I take a stab at our media's coverage of politics.

Hey, everybody! Couldn't resist putting another picture of my Granddaughter up. She's so pretty!
Well, normally I work a week ahead of time, so that the vote incentives will be a full color preview. Next week's page of Lost Legends of Whoelterran is taking longer than usual however, so the incentives have to be black and white. On the other hand, they are indeed previews. So the update today is in Lost Legends of Whoelterran where we hear some key points about the kobold's plans in the Deep Horror. They got nerve, you gotta give 'em that!

Hey everybody! In case you missed the chat box messages, I became Grandpa on the 23rd! Couldn't resist putting a photo of my Granddaughter up for all to see! Aint she sweet?!
Well, with my little Grandchild being born last week, I haven't been able to do as much comicing as normal. I did get an update done for When Foxes Fly , which concludes Rusty's song of praise. (Wait'll you see the results!). I should have an update for Lost Legends of Whoelterran in a couple of days.

Hey, everybody! As far as updates go, in When Foxes Fly Rusty continues to praise and worship with amazing results. In Lost Legends of Whoelterran , we witness kobold discipline. And in From RoughWood With Love we find a cure for the boring day!
Well, nifty nifty, RG is fifty! That's right, folks! Yours Truly, The Hermit of The Sparkle Forests has walked the face of the earth for half a century! My wife was pretty amused when I turned to her yesterday, and said, "I DON'T KNOW HOW TO BE FIFTY!!". I mean, I still like cartoons, reading and drawing comics, hearing and telling stories, playing video games... all the stuff my parents said I would have to grow out of. 'Sigh', I suppose by their standards back then, I never grew up. I must face the fact that at first glance, I don't appear very successful. In my arrogance, I turned down contacts leading to Disney, (long ago when Disney was looking for new talent) and spent about twenty years busting my rear to feed my family. No regrets about that, but I probably would have preferred supporting my family by working for Disney. On the other hand, if my first job out of college had been with Disney, I would never have learned how to pull dignity out of doing a job which most folks consider to be totally unskilled, (do you want fries with that?) . I would never have learned how to pull dignity out of cleaning toilets and mopping floors for a living. If my first job had been with Disney, I doubt that I would be a veteran now. Though, I have tried to be a simple man, I find myself becoming more and more complicated. Though I appear to be unsuccessful, my efforts have helped my wife raise three wonderful kids who are now grown and on their own. I'm even supposed to be a grandfather this month. Yes, this crazy little unknown hermit hiding out in the Sparkle Forests has been pretty successful after all.

'Whew', wasn't sure I'd make the update this week. Been a little bit behind, 'cause I was sick a couple of days. I'm feeling better now though.
In Lost Legends of Whoelterran , the kobolds are stirrin' up some powerful mischief of the worst kind. In From RoughWood With Love , I take another stab at the political scene, and in When Foxes Fly , little Rusty begins his song of praise and worship.

In When Foxes Fly , Rusty is out of the frying pan, but into the fire!
In Lost Legends of Whoelterran , Illbit reveals the secret of the empty barrel to Deeblit, but what mischief are the kobolds planning?
And in From RoughWood With Love , this week's comic is based on a local remedy to keep squirrels out of birdfeeders.

Well, here in the states we're celebrating Labor Day, which means most of us have an extra day off from work. Me? I'm hard at work posting another update, but it's what makes me happy!
Speaking of updates, in When Foxes Fly , Filbert crashes into the situation, but how did he get there? In Lost Legends of Whoelterran , we cut briefly to the prisoners Valoria and Allspice, as they discuss some observations of the situation in the Deep Dark. In From RoughWood With Love , I present "The Squirrel's just desserts!

'Sigh', it's been a difficult week. My mom had a stroke and has started therapy. It wasn't a massive stroke, but it has affected her speech and comprehension. This is difficult for me because she has always been so sharp mentally. Hope is alive however, and the therapist has said that she should be able to get back almost all of it. God is Good.
As far as updates are concerned, in Lost Legends of Whoelterran , Valor reveals a few more secrets about his tech equipment. In When Foxes Fly , the Bloody Paw agent has Rusty trapped.

Hey, everybody! Well, I was glad to see some of the fencing events aired at the Olympics, as well as some incredible feats done by the athletes. How 'bout that Mr. Phelps? (I think he's really a dolphin in disguise) Now, if they'll just air the Judo and Taekwondo events...
My wife's been happy because she loves to watch the gymnastics. I must admit that is a fascinating sport, whether one is watching the men or women. I have trouble comprehending how they can get their bodies to do all that. I mean, I know it's a combination of determination, practice and training, but it is still such a mystery to me. I guess that's where 'talent' comes in. Yes, talent is definitely a treasure held by every participant in the Olympiad. We cheer for them, as they all are winners by even making it to the games. Whether they obtain a medal or not, they enrich all of our lives with their competition. I'm a fan of them all.
As far as updates go, in Lost Legends of Whoelterran , Valor and Norry continue their debate about things of faith. In When Foxes Fly , the five minutes have passed and Duelsey's powers are back. But where's Rusty?

August 11, 2008
Hey everybody! Well, I been watching the Olympics and I just love it. I do have a little complaint about the coverage though. Don't get me wrong, the diving, swimming and gymnastics are great, but I like other events which hardly ever get aired. I'm talking the archery, taekwondo, and judo events (among others). I like the fencing, shooting, and throwing events as well. Why don't they ever get aired? I long for the kind of coverage they had back in the days of the "Wide World of Sports" telecasts! Back then they would cover just the action of the actual event and then cut to the action of another event. That way, they had time to show a wide variety of athletics and we wouldn't be watching ten minutes of warm up before seeing five minutes of action! Give me more variety, and less stretching exercises! Or, if I want to just hear a reporter yak, I could listen to the radio.
As far as updates go, In Lost Legends of Whoelterran , Valor reveals his doubts about deities of any kind.
In When Foxes Fly , Duelsey carries the fight all the way down to the street! Literally!

Hey, everybody! BuzzComix is in closed beta and yours truly made it in! Now, you can vote for me at that listing.       Well, I'm as busy as a June bug in a chicken coop here lately. Not only has BuzzComix got a lot of new features I'm trying to keep up with, but I'm also putting together a guest strip for one of my favorite comics ever. Yeah, they're going on hiatus in a while and I have the honor of doing one of the guest strips. Tell you more later, (don't want to give away too much!)
As far as updates go, in Lost Legends of Whoelterran Valor tries to explain why his satchel is bigger on the inside than the outside. GADZOOKS! Can that boy talk tech!
In When Foxes Fly , Duelsey fights like a tiger, but is her opponent taking her down with him?

Hey everybody! I want to thank all the response I'm getting from folks on my Cbox! Staying in touch with my readers is a goal I hope to always achieve on these sites. The best thing about Cboxes is how easy they are to use, so don't be shy. It's right there in the left margin of When Foxes Fly and Lost Legends of Whoelterran cover pages. Just click and send me a message. I love hearing from folks.
The new update for BuzzComix , may be going into beta testing the first week of August, but I have previews at TopWebComics ! That's right! When you vote for my comics with the TopWebComics button, you'll get a preview of next week's update. Not the whole page, mind you. Only a portion. I don't want to spoil the surprise. Matter of fact, I'll have more than one preview through the week. So keep voting and see.
Speaking of updates, this week in Lost Legends of Whoelterran , we get our first glimpse in Valor's satchel. In When Foxes Fly , the battle continues with another villain coming after Rusty!

Hey everybody! Hope y'all had a wonderful weekend! My wife and I celebrated our anniversary on Saturday! My mother in law treated us to dinner at a wonderful restaurant called Blue Bay and we had a great time. Yeah, it was a fantastic weekend, even though I had to get a shot Sunday.
When Foxes Fly and Lost Legends of Whoelterran are doing pretty good at BuzzComix ! They hover between 200 and 300 in the general rankings, but (as of this morning), both are in the top 100 of their own genres! Matter of fact, while Lost Legends of Whoelterran is #73 in fantasy, WHEN FOXES FLY IS #12 IN THE ANTHROS!! That's right! When Foxes Fly is almost in the top ten anthro comics at BuzzComix ! Those of you that are voting, thank you so much! and those that aren't, please start. It's easy, just click the vote buttons in the left margin of my comics' landing pages. In the future, I'm planning on putting a little preview of the next update in the vote incentives.
Speaking of updates, in When Foxes Fly , Duelsey suffers the retaliation of the Abomba Nation agent as her fight to defend Rusty escalates.
In Lost Legends of Whoelterran , Norry wakes up in the pale blue glow of a video light. You know, the same kind of glow the television has when it's the only light at night. But is someone missing?

Well, I spent the weekend making a few changes. First, I redesigned my links pages on Lost Legends of Whoelterran , and When Foxes Fly . Don't be shy, just click and type! Looking forward to hearing from you!
As far as updates go, in When Foxes Fly , Duelsey got zapped, but shows there's a lot more in her background than she let on.
In Lost Legends of Whoelterran , we have more about goblin and kobold diplomacy! Could those kobolds be cooking up something? Oh, and there is such a word as 'dastard'! It's not a typo, LOL! It means a wicked, cowardly sneak! What did you think I meant?! Look it up!

Whew! We made it to the first Monday in July. Hope everyone had a great Independence Day! We spent ours close to home 'cause gas prices are so high! I flew the flag and we watched the fireworks on the television. Sure, it may not have been exciting, but it was relaxing. Happy Birthday America.
As far as updates go, in Lost Legends of Whoelterran , we introduce kobolds for the first time. Yeah, I wanted an original design for the denizens of Impbite and the least powerful inhabitants of the Deep Dark, but from what I've read of the old legends, and my own background stories of the synthebrids of Whoelterran, this image of kobolds seems appropriate. (I also wanted to steer away from the old AD&D design) They may be small, but don't sell them kobolds short ('snort'), they are clever and can cause great mischief!
In When Foxes Fly , Duelsey makes her move. Her heart isn't in her treachery however, and she changes her mind at the last second. But has she turned over a new leaf way too late?
In From Rough Wood With Love , this was drawn when Disney's "Tarzan of the Apes" came out in video. Yeah, I kinda liked that movie.

And so, the hot month of June comes to a close. As it does so, we greet the new month of July. July brings with it great days of patriotism for both the States and Canada. Canada Day is on Tuesday and the Fourth of July is on Friday. Hopefully we'll get a bit more rain here in The Sparkle Forests so that our fireworks won't be so dangerous.
As far as updates go, in Lost Legends of Whoelterran , Tinker's Curse elaborates a bit more about 'DHEM'. I think I did pretty well on the last panel where he and the goblin General peer into the opening of the kobold tunnel.
In When Foxes Fly , Tzgitattles and Obtuse finally meet Bonny. Now, she smells the so called sacred potion. How could she recognize that aroma?
In From Rough Wood With Love , we have a little comic reminiscent of when the only heat my family had in the house was a wood burner. Well, I discovered the dangers of alternative fuels.

In When Foxes Fly , looks like Kirby's jet mode wasn't quite fast enough! 'Course Ping Pong's swat gave me a chance to set up for next week's page. Don't worry, Kirby's alright. He's a feisty li'l bug.
In Lost Legends of Whoelterran , Tinker, the goblin shaman, takes it upon himself to quiet the prisoners once again! Wonder what's behind the big Ominous Door that has him so torn up? Allspice and Valoria get first hand introduction to the mysteries of the Deep Dark.

Well, I had a great Father's Day, (even though I had to get a shot) and got to see all my kids (they've grown up, y'know). I love my family!
In the update of Lost Legends of Whoelterran , Allspice and Valoria travel further into the Deep Dark. Just a little more info for you lucky readers; The Vile Nexus is under Brineyland, so the Goblins have taken Allspice and Valoria many miles underground. This means they are no longer under the Sparkle Forests and have left Valor and Co. far behind. Will he, Zan, and Norry ever catch up? Have patience, dear reader...
As far as the update of When Foxes Fly is concerned, Filbert and Co. are finally facing Ping Pong themselves. Will Tzgitattles ever be able to give her the potion, or is there another way to subdue the monster? Stay tuned...
Okay, the update on From Rough Wood With Love is kind of dated (as usual) since I drew them a while back! This one was done when "Jurassic Park" first came out on DVD, and you may have guessed which scene the comic is referring to. (I still jump when I watch that part).

Hey, everybody! Here in the states, "Flag Day" is this weekend! Let the banner fly!
Father's Day is Sunday, as well! Remember to honor dear old Dad!
Well, some of you may have noticed I've removed the "WebComics Super 100 List" from my vote buttons. Naw, I didn't succumb to the harassment I received from hecklers who got angry when my comics bumped one of their friends off the top ten there. Matter of fact, I stubbornly stayed there through all that because I wasn't going to let them take away my privilege to be on that list like any other WebComics creator. I still find it ironic that they trashed the ratings of "When Foxes Fly", (making it the lowest rated comic on the list) and the votes of my readers kept it in the top ten continually. Certain events in the past couple of months however, have made me suspicious of the list itself. For one thing, whenever they reset the list, my votes drop back to zero while others will get at least one vote that very day. Since they update the next day, everyone should be at zero that first day. Either a few have been informed of something I haven't, or the administration manipulates the list more than they let on. In any event, I stayed with the Super 100 List, because within two days, my readers would have me back up to number 2 and 3 anyway. the past couple of days however, have heightened my suspicions. Two days ago they reset again, but this time my votes stayed at zero both days. At least one vote should have registered, (mine). For this reason I have sent them a message to cancel my accounts. I would rather my readers direct thier votes to a list where I'm more certain they'll be registered. So for now, I'd like to request all your votes to go to TopWeb and Buzzcomics. The buttons are in the left margin, y'all.

Hey everybody! Hope you've had a great Memorial Day weekend!
My wife and I went to a new Church last Sunday. We're trying to find a new Church home since our last one closed its doors. The Church we visited was great, but we want to see at least one more before we make up our mind. A Christian's church home is very important to them and should be chosen wisely. For all the folks who mean well, Church people can hurt you like no others. If you want to escape this fact, I don't know if you'll ever find a Church home. Therefore, we have to rely on God's Guidance to find the place of Worship where we can do the most good. You see, among all the deeds of men and women are many mistakes. God always deals with our hearts. To find a Church home, we must examine the Church's heart.

Hey, everybody! This Saturday we're celebrating Armed Forces Day, here in the states! Let's take the opportunity to remember the folks who keep watch so that we can enjoy our peace.
Well, it's been quite an eventful week. My mother went into the hospital last week with an infection in her side. It scared us a bit because the doctor said if it didn't shrink down, they might have to operate. Thankfully, it did and she went home today. Praise The Lord.
If any of you have gone to my MySpace or DA page, I apologize for not having been there for ages. The problem is my dial up connection. A few months back, those sites went through some modifications and now it takes forever for their pages to load up. With things as they are, I just don't have time for that kind of stuff. I am thinking about starting a LiveJournal, but for the time being, email is the best way to talk to me. That, or RG's Soapbox Forum .
Seems like natural disasters are occurring all over the earth here lately. Course, when you try to look at the statistics of this topic, you can come up with any number of conclusions, (depending on who you ask). It's as if a number of organizations are trying to resist any hint that an increase in natural disasters may have a prophetic link to Christ's return. Hence, you have some folks saying there is a definite increase in natural disaster and others who are calling those findings ridiculous. I find it interesting that some of these liberal sources balk at the very idea of natural disasters occurring prophetically before The Lord's return, but can embrace wholeheartedly natural disasters brought about by the emissions of automobiles and the burning of fossil fuels. You can't have it both ways, folks. If you say natural disasters aren't increasing, (because you don't want it to be prophetic) you can't turn around and say they are increasing because of global warming. You're contradicting yourself, anyway you look at it! Personally, I say where there's smoke, there's fire. The sheer buzz about it going on, tells me that people are noticing a change in the frequency of disasters. The more I see, the more I believe we are in the last days. Christ is coming folks, and I believe He's coming soon.

Hey everybody! Well, I'm a bit under thuh wedder today, "coff coff". Been fightin' a bad cold over the weekend, but hopefully it'll clear up soon. I don't like being sick, "grumble".
Forums are still down, and I'll look into putting them back up. It may be awhile though. Oh, but the RG Soapbox Forum is still alive and well!
Yeah, think I'll cut it short this week and go gargle or something. "groan"

Hey everybody! Well, the climatic roller coaster continues here in the Sparkle Forests, and we have a little cold snap going on now. I think it's just the chill of the spring rains however, and the warm weather will be back soon.
Some of you may have noticed that I've taken down all my forums but one. Sorry 'bout that, but some folks were trying to Spam me with one of their 'bots. I really wanted a forum where folks didn't have to register to use, but some spammers were trying to take advantage of that. After having to make 40 deletions a day to one topic, I decided I needed to start all over. I still want to have a register free forum, (like RG's Soapbox Forum, which is still up) but I want to keep the Spam out too. I'll let you know when the forums are all back up. Oh! Anyone know any good forum hosts for free?
I had a reader who was confused about the Menorah which appeared in Chapter 3, (pages 4 and 5) of Lost Legends of Whoelterran . They wanted to know if "Lost Legends" was really a Christian comic, (because the Menorah is generally thought of as a Jewish symbol). Well, Lost Legends is indeed a Christian comic and you may very well see a lot of Judaic symbols in it. Why? Because true Christians serve a Jewish God! A God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever!

April 7, 2008
Hey everybody! We survived April Fool's Day, and now look to the rest of the month with a new spring to enjoy. Still a lot of rain, but the flowers have started blooming. Comforting to see the splashes of color in the midst of all the gloom.
Well, I got my B12 shot yesterday, and I do seem to feel a little better today. Sure is a relief to have that over with this month. RG don't like needles.
Wonder why Easter didn't coincide with Passover this year? You know, The Lord's death and Resurrection occurred around the time of Passover, so why are they three weeks apart now? I suppose it's more of the pagan Roman influences of the season infringing on the Holiday. Such a shame...
Planting time is upon us in the Sparkle Forests. Our neighbors have been tilling soil, and show the promise of some pretty little gardens. Yes, in some places it resembles The Shire around here. It feels like home.

March 31, 2008
And so comes the time to turn the page on March 2008. It's been a very eventful month, but I look to April with great anticipation. (uh oh, tomorrow's April Fools Day).
Anyway, a few days back, I saw an ad for a new tee shirt design that got me thinking, (dangerous for those around me) and I decided to rant about it. The funny thing is that the shirt didn't steer my thoughts in the direction which the designer intended. It's the latest answer nonbelievers have come up with, for the WWJD?, (What Would Jesus D o?) design. The shirt has a big WWUD?, and then under it says (think for yourself). You know, this may seem clever at first but if you know something about the decision making process, it completely misses the mark. When we, so call, think for ourselves, we have to consider not only our options, but our priorities as well. Like it or not, our priorities and values are based for a large part on the influences of those around us. I know that as a youth when I turned from the values my parents taught me, (and decided to 'think for myself') I was actually being manipulated by peer pressure. I was simply using a different value system to make my decisions. I know now, that the advice given to me was flawed and filled my life with a lot of mischief. Like it or not, everyone who prides themselves on 'thinking for themselves' still use templates and suggestions in their decision making process. They still consider the advice or example of others, be it peer pressure, mentors, or prominent people who've gone before us. When we consider what Jesus would do, we actually are thinking for ourselves! Further, we are using the Greatest example available in our decision making process!

Hi everybody! Hope your Easter was fantastic! I've had a pretty good weekend, but the dizzy spells came back for a few days. If they were just a little light- headedness, that wouldn't be so bad, (I'm used to that) but it hits me all at once and for about 3 to 5 seconds I feel like I'm in free fall. Just another MS aggravation.
You may have noticed that I've put up some ad boxes at the top of the page. Project Wonderful is my favorite ad exchange because they let me choose what ads I'll accept or reject before they get to my site. That means I'll only accept ads which I feel are proper for a Christian site to be affiliated with. Yet, I'm not above making mistakes though, so if you find an ad is to an objectionable site, let me know and I'll give it a second look. Mature and graphic sites aren't the only ones on my reject list. If a site is particularly mean spirited and nasty to others, I may very well reject them also. I feel no obligation to send viewers to troll and flame sites.

Hey everybody! Hope y'all had a Happy Saint Patrick's day!
Saint Patrick was born somewhere around 389 AD, in Western Britain. He was the son of a Christian deacon, but at the age of sixteen, Patrick was kidnapped by Irish raiders. The unfortunate youth found himself enslaved and spent the next six years herding sheep in Ireland. He managed to escape however, and landed in Gaul, (what we now call France) where he became a monk. Patrick went on to become a deacon and finally a bishop.
About 419 AD, Patrick had a dream which called upon him to convert the Irish. Thus, began his life as a missionary. Now, Patrick wasn't the first missionary to Ireland, but he was certainly the most successful. By all accounts, the man had incredible courage. Instead of tolerating the pagan practices of the local druids, Patrick openly defied them. A turning point in Irish history occurred when Patrick lit an Easter fire in Tara. It was on the day that the first fire was supposed to be lit by the druid king. Instead of punishing Patrick's insolence, the king was impressed by his faith and courage. The king protected the bishop and his work from that day on.
Legends have been handed down as to the means that Patrick used to convert the druids of Ireland. The best known was that the Saint drove all the snakes out of Ireland, but the one that is dear to me is the way he used the three leaves of the shamrock to explain the Trinity of God to the druid king. You see each leaf of the shamrock is an individual leaf, but each leaf is every bit as much of the one shamrock as the others. Our God is God The Father, God The Son, and God The Holy Spirit. Each one as much a part of the One God as the others. However it happened, Patrick gained the support of the king of Tara, and ministered to the needs of the Christians already in Ireland. The Saint went on to make many converts in Ulster, Connaught, and finally established his see in Armagh.
Yes, there's wonderful legends surrounding Patrick, but the facts we have are equally impressive! In 33 years, he effectively converted all of Ireland. His ties with the Church brought Ireland into closer contact with Rome and acquainted the Irish with the culture of Western Europe. As a result of Saint Patrick's work, the monasteries of Ireland were great storehouses of knowledge during the Dark Ages. Further, throughout the Middle Ages, the country was known as the Land of Saints.

Last week was pretty eventful for me. They did some laser work on my eyes. No, it won't cure my nearsightedness, but it's supposed to lower the pressure so that I won't have to take a bunch of ocular drops.
In any event, that's why the update is late. Yet, when I consider all the advantages to updating on Monday, I think I'll make that my regular updating day. Seems like that will make my schedule far more stable.

Well, I think there's an old saying that goes, "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb." Heh, I don't think March really came into the Sparkle Forests like a lion this year. Oh, we got a couple of days of frost, but now we have spring weather again. If March is coming in like a lamb, does that mean it'll go out like a lion?
I find myself in the center of the great art debate time and time again. What I call the great art debate, is the struggle between the viewpoint of contemporary artists, and that of the liberal arts. What would an old man doing comics know of such things, you may ask. Well, because I've been through both schools. If you don't believe I can paint then you need to look at my older work in my DA Gallery . I'm not doing comics because I can't do fine artwork y'all. Comics seem to combine a lot of different talents God has gifted me with and I find them very fulfilling. In any event, I get annoyed at the great art debate, because for me it shouldn't exist. The reason it does exist, is there are a lot of folks who think they have an understanding of the arts when they really don't. On one hand you have the very narrow minded opinion of a lot of contemporary artists who think a piece is only art if it is realistic and looks like something else. Then you have the other end of the spectrum with the liberal artists who don't believe anyone can really define art, that art is in the eye of the beholder, and anything framed or put on a pedestal is art. It is my opinion, (the opinion of someone who trained in both arts, has degrees in both arts, and who has studied art for many years) that both extremes are completely wrong. If you follow the contemporary extreme, then any poorly composed snapshot from an instamatic camera becomes a great work of art. If you go by the liberal arts extreme, than any smearing or hoof print put on a canvas by non comprehending zoo animals becomes a work of art. Yes, the great art debate has produced a lot of money for folks who know very little about art, while truly talented people never get noticed. My definition of art comes from actually combining the theories of both schools. If you do that, you can set an impressionistic painting beside an abstract, and decide which individual piece is a better work of art. It is no longer a comparison of apples and oranges because all art is empowered by certain basic characteristics. Balance, movement, composition, and technique are the building blocks of any work of art. It is the excellence or failure of these tools which decide whether a piece is a good work of art, or poor.

Well, I'm a little frustrated. Spent way too much time looking for a free banner exchange only to find out there's a lot of them no longer active. Total waste of my time. Hard to find good advertising on such limited funds, but I'll keep looking.
Finally cleaned up my DA page, (lotsa unread messages) and decided to unwatch a lot of folks. I just couldn't keep up with all the deviations. So, if they never answered my comments or never watched me back, they got deleted. I deserve as much respect as anyone else.
Hey, weigh ins for the Bass Master Classic are being held in the county right next to The Sparkle Forests and there seems to be a lot of fishing fever going on around here. Now, if we could only get a decent comic convention going...

Hey everybody! Hope your Valentine's Day was fantastic. My poor wife's got a bad cold but she seems to be doing better. I'm very thankful for that!
Great news from a couple of the comic listings! At the WebComics Super 100 List , Lost Legends of Whoelterran and When Foxes Fly were ranked # 2 and # 3 on February 14th! The only thing ranked higher was the webcomic heavyweight Chicken Wings ! Chicken Wings is a great comic, and well deserves the # 1 slot. Have to say it was an honor to be ranked in the next two slots under such an established webcomic. Not only that, but When Foxes Fly , and , Lost Legends of Whoelterran were also in the top twenty at Webbed Comics ! I thank the Good Lord for the opportunity to tell these stories in my own way and display them for free. I also want to thank the wonderful viewers who take the time to vote for my comics. Thank you so much, and keep the votes coming! I need all the help and encouragement I can get!

I just can't believe the weather here lately. It's like winter is on hiatus in the Sparkle Forest. If I were superstitious, I'd say the ground hog really didn't see his shadow, after all. The temperature is like twenty degrees higher than normal. Yet, I see on the news that folks in other parts of the country are fighting through terrible blizzards. WHAT"S GOING ON!?
Well, the new comic, From Rough Wood With Love is up and running. You may have noticed that I don't have any vote buttons there. As yet there is a very small archive for that comic and I'm going to wait until there's fifteen pieces done before I introduce it to the comic listings.
As usual, I get a lot of numbers, and the voting lets me know I'm doing a good job, but other than that, I get very little feedback. If you like what you see here, please email me or pop into the forum and let me know. My forums are easy 'cause no registration or log in is required. I can use all the kudos I can get!

February 1, 2008
And so begins February, the month of hearts, and candy. It's also the month that I'm launching a comic which I started long ago just for family and close friends. Everybody who saw it, told me it should be syndicated but sadly the comic syndicates didn't agree. I could say that it's because they didn't get the strange mixture of conservatism and earthiness. I could also say it's because I showed that folks from the deep south aren't all beer drinking, bigoted, trashy, lazy idiots shooting anything that moves like the stereotype says we're supposed to be. Further, I could say that the big city syndicates didn't understand why I didn't embrace that stereotype like Snuffy Smith , Lil Abner , or Jeff Foxworthy has. I could say all that, but I think it's more accurate to say that I didn't have an agent. In any event, and excluding the syndicates, From Rough Wood With Love is a good little comic which has brought joy to all who have seen it so far, and I hope it gives you a laugh as well.
